Shila Abhyanga Back to Top

image90-min.  $130

In Sanskrit, ‘shila’ means stone, ‘abhy’ means to rub and ‘anga’ means limb. Together, they form the Sanskrit word for stone massage. Heated stone massage is a form of thermotherapy. Shila Abyhanga dates back thousands of years and can be traced to the ancient healing traditions of almost every culture.

Warm, smooth river stones are held in the therapist's hands during the massage to melt away tension and stress. Warmth from the stones eases muscle stiffness, encourages the exchange of blood and lymph circulation throughout the body, and prepares the muscles and fascia for deep-tissue work.  Note:  Healing stones are contraindicated for prenatal massage.

60-min. $170  75-min. $200  90-min.  $230image

Tandem Abhyanga or four-handed oil massage is based on the ancient principles of Ayurveda.   Ayurveda is a 4,000-year-old method of healing originating in India, the chief aim of which is longevity and quality of life; the most ancient existing medical system that uses diet, natural therapies, and herbs.

This is a warm-oil massage given by two specially-trained therapists who work in tandem on both sides of the body.  The session is carried out in silence, which helps to harmonize the body's functions. Silence and rest are important components in the process of activating the body's own self-healing mechanisms.

Please allow 72 hours or more for scheduling, as two therapists are required.  Abhyanga Ayurvedic Massage is offered only at The Yoga Center of Columbia.

Sports Massage enhances performance and prolongs a sports career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pains and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates. Sports Massage is also highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery of an athlete from an injury by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and in turn promoting the body's natural immune function.  Click on the "Forms" tab to the left to view the brochure entitled, "Massage Therapy for Sports and Fitness."  It will take you through the types of Sport Massage and their benefits.

Reflexology Back to Top

45-minutes  $60

Sometimes referred to as a massage, but it is not a massage in the typical sense of the word. Massage involves applying pressure over large sections of the body to target the muscular and circulatory systems. Reflexology, on the other hand, focuses on pointed, specific areas of the feet, hands and ears. It can target not only the main body systems that massage affects but also specific organs, like the liver, bladder and kidneys. This treatment includes:  foot cleansing, reflexology on the ears, hands, and feet, and massage to those areas.

Consider adding the Eye Vacation, Holistic Aromatherapy, Seasonal Brown Sugar Scrub, or the Mango Butter for Hands & Feet from the ala cart treatments to complete your healing experience.

Ad-ons: Holistic Aromatherapy Back to Top

Ayurveda is based on the idea that the entire universe is composed of five elements and that three of these elements – Vata (Air), Pitta (Fire) and Kapha (Earth & Water) control the body. These elements have to be in balance for the body to be healthy.   When out of balance, there is dis-ease or what is otherwise called ‘dosha’.  Ayurveda uses essential oils to treat the Vata, Pitta and Kapha doshas. This can be done by inhaling and massaging specific essential oils into the skin to balance the particular dosha. This is a quick way to heal stress and dis-ease as the aroma instantly starts working with the brain. You will take an evaluation to determine your current dosha and which essential oils will be used during your healing session.

Add Healing Stones Back to Top

Following the soak is the seasonal Grapefruit Lavender Sugar Foot Scrub made with organic brown and raw sugar crystals, Avocado oil, Lavender and Grapefruit essential oils. This is a great wintertime treatment to gently exfoliate and moisturize the feet.

Mango Butter for Hands & Feet Back to Top

$10

imageAre your hands and feet dry, cracked and feeling thirsty?  Try the mango butter with refreshing citrus.  This is a nutrient-dense cream used to hydrate the skin.  It contains emollients from the rich nut oils inside the seeds. These little moisture beads wrap the skin in a blanket of pure moisture that lasts longer than your average lotion.  They form a protective barrier over the skin to hold in moisture.  After the treatment, many people notice that their skin is remarkably soft.  It provides a feast for the senses - while it soothes and hydrates your skin.

15-min. Reiki Session Back to Top

$15image

Add on a 15-minute Reiki Session to your Massage.  This will be a good way to introduce yourself to the experience of Reiki. “Reiki is a Japanese technique of relaxation that works similarly to acupuncture, in that you are releasing and moving energy,” explains Donna Audia, R.N., a nurse on Shock Trauma’s pain management team and a certified Reiki master. “By using Reiki with trauma patients, we are not only helping them to relax, we’re also making them active participants in their own healing, and that can be very empowering.”  Read the entire article.

15-min. Reflexology Back to Top

$15

image

Add a 15-minute Reflexology foot therapy to your massage or Reiki session.  Reflexology is a non-invasive integrative modality. This treatment begins with a foot cleansing with Tea Tree Oil and natural Peppermint to clean and revive tired, overworked feet, to bring a spring to your step. Next the therapist will use alternating pressure applied to the reflexes within the reflex maps of the body located on the feet. The treatment is finished with a foot massage using purifying Australian Tea Tree Oil, refreshing Peppermint, and Cocoa Butter to form a moisture shield to protect the feet from every day wear and tear.

On-Site Massage Back to Top

Consider incorporating massage therapy into your next event. Depending on your event, you can include chair and/or table massage.

Chair massage relieves muscle tension and fatigue, which can cause headache and soreness, and works to break the repetitive motion cycle that produces injuries such as carpel tunnel syndrome. It is offered in public spaces and workplaces. A specially-designed massage chair lets you lean forward and supports the front of the body. It revitalizes in only 15 minutes while leaving you relaxed but alert. You remain fully clothed.

Table Massage  is one of the oldest healing arts. Chinese records dating back 3,000 years document its use. The ancient Hindus, Persians and Egyptians applied forms of massage for many ailments. Today, the benefits of massage are varied and far-reaching. Massage therapy has proven beneficial for many chronic conditions, including low back pain, arthritis, bursitis, fatigue, high blood pressure, diabetes, immunity suppression, depression, and more. And, as many millions will attest, massage also helps relieve the stress and tension of everyday living that can lead to disease and illness.
